Kit containing a printed pattern and yarn from Romney Marsh Wools to make a simple and cozy hot water bottle cover.
This kit contains a printed knitting pattern developed specially for Romney Marsh Wools by Sarah Hartley, one of their lovely knitters and friends, as well as a 100g ball of Romney Marsh Wools Pure British Lambswool in a choice of four natural shades. This cover is designed for a 2 litre hot water bottle. You will also need a pair of 4mm straight or circular knitting needles (not included) and a length of ribbon approx 70 cm (please note: we chose to make an i-cord to use instead of a length of ribbon - there was enough yarn left over after making the hot water bottle cover to do this).
Romney Marsh Pure British Lambswool is a beautiful, undyed DK weight yarn which is available in four subtle naturally coloured shades ranging from ecru to dark grey. Lambswool is soft, which makes this yarn ideal for a range of wearable accessories such as gloves, hats and scarves, and also children’s toys. This yarn is a fairly plump dk weight and has great stitch definition so squishy cables will really stand out. It is a little rustic and very easy to knit with as dropped stitches will stay put rather than running away. The knitted fabric is stretchy and holds its shape. Romney yarn felts and takes dyes incredibly well.
About Romney Marsh Wools
Romney Marsh Wools is a family run company based on Romney Marsh in Kent where Kristina and Paul Boulden keep around 1500 Romney sheep as well as a small flock of Merinos. They believe firmly in raising awareness of all the benefits that wool can bring and they have built a sustainable business based on traditions going back hundreds of years. They aim to conserve the historic Romney Marsh pasture and create products that are naturally processed, with no dyes or synthetic chemicals. A strong emphasis on not wasting anything has led them to create a range of beautiful wool based products beside knitting yarn, such as rugs and cushions, clothing and lanolin based toiletries. Romney Marsh Wools has recently achieved carbon neutral status.
Why We Love Them
The unique landscape of Romney Marsh is just down the road from where we’re based in East Sussex and it’s a really special place. We are delighted to see a local business continuing on the long tradition of keeping sheep on the marsh, and creating sustainable, luxury products from 100% wool.
