About Us
Celebrating Making By Hand
Established in 2022, by Harriet Couchman and Christopher King, Flock is an online knitting and hand stitching store based on the south coast of England, in St Leonards on Sea, East Sussex. Our passion is sustainability in our making and we love seeking out beautiful natural yarns from responsible producers - especially those based in the UK. We also stock a considered range of knitting and sewing tools and notions to make your making projects as easy and joyful as possible.

I love the feeling of self sufficiency that comes with being able to make and repair my own garments: It forces me to slow down, consider what I really want to make and step away from the madness of fast fashion. I don’t remember exactly when I learned to knit, but I was probably about seven or eight. It’s always been there in the background, but In recent years I’ve dedicated more time to knitting, and I’ve also discovered hand spinning and weaving. I love taking raw material like fleece through all of the steps to make a finished garment that will keep me warm for years to come.
Our Mission
We don’t have a brick-and-mortar shop. Yet.
We’re working on it though. And in the meantime we offer you this online space, which is growing all the time. Alongside our Shop we share stories about our making and the things that inspire us in our Journal and knitting how-to’s on our Tutorials page.

When it comes to knitting I’m very much a beginner, but I come from a family who all knit. My mother taught me when I was 9 or 10 but I promptly forgot it all as I was more interested in running around climbing trees and investigating ants nests. But I love making things, especially things I can use in my day to day life. I am particularly interested in the role making had in historic communities and how the things they made reflected their location and way of life. Think of me as Flock’s in house beginner, enjoying learning a new skill and discovering the mindful benefits that the craft of knitting offers.
