Repairing our clothes is essential to prolonging their lifespan, but mending is not just good for our clothes - it’s a great way to relax and reconnect with your creativity whilst doing something positive for the environment. We’ve had loads of fun putting together some of our favourite tools into this kit to get you started.
Included in the Mending Kit
Hemline Wooden Mushroom Darner - this darning mushroom is approximately 5.5cm across and is used to support your fabric while you darn. Great for smaller items like sleeves, socks and mittens; the top of the mushroom can be removed and used on its own.
Wooden Embroidery Hoop - 12.7cm across, this beechwood embroidery hoop can be used to stabilise larger areas of fabric whilst you complete a repair.
Hemline Snag Repair Needle - A special needle for repairing snags and pulled threads in knitwear, woven fabrics and upholstery. The ballpoint tip ensures that fibres aren’t split and the abrasive tip grips onto loose threads and pulls them to the back of the fabric so that they are no longer visible.
Darning Needles - A mixed pack of ten size 1-5 darning needles from Hemline. Plastic free packaging.
Merchant and Mills Baby Bow Scissors - An incredibly useful pair of scissors from Merchant and Mills. The black Baby Bow scissors are 6.75cm long and are perfect for snipping loose ends and tidying up an area before you darn it.
2 x Flock Darning Thread Cards - each card contains approx 15m of darning thread. This repurposed thread is either from our own stash, or repurposed from mill waste or preloved garments. Colours will be whatever we have, but we will aim to include one bright and one neutral. (If you are after a specific colour, we can swap these cards for Scanfil Mending Wool Cards - just let us know when you place your order.)
Hand Printed Organic Cotton Drawstring Bag - Keep all your mending tools together in this drawstring bag that we’ve hand screen-printed with our own design, featuring all the tools included in the kit. GOTS certified cotton bag, 15cm x 20cm.
*The book Visible Mending by Arounna Khounnoraj shown in the last picture is not included in the kit, but we would highly recommend it!
