A 100g hank of a DK wool for hand knitting. Manufactured exclusively by Glencroft from fleeces collected from seven farms within 10 miles of their warehouse in Clapham, Yorkshire Dales. The wool contains all the sheep breeds on these local farms - Dalesbred, Blue Face Leicester (BFL), North of England Mule and Texel.

Glencroft have produced a beautiful DK weight yarn with a reasonably soft handle. The wool is certified as "British Wool Traceable". Due to the nature of the wool used, there will be some 'nep' - shorter natural coloured fibres.

Each hank also has a link on the label to three free knitting patterns created by Glencroft’s local hand knit expert Sandra Oakeshott; for a bias scarfchild's hat & scarf and fingerless mittens.

About Glencroft & The Clapdale Wool Project

Glencroft has manufactured in the UK and used British Wool in their jumpers since they began in 1987. It’s been the most traceable wool they could find at a reasonable price but they have always wanted to find a way to use the sheep on the fields around them and contribute directly to the local community.

After a random connection led to a conversation in mid 2021 with Maria Benjamin and Zoe Wooster at the Wool Library, they realised they could make our own wool as long as they started with 500kg – the minimum quantity they could get commercially scoured. Before long, they picked up wool from two local farms and started the process that would result in Clapdale Wool!

Clapdale Wool is sourced from 7 farms within 10 miles of Glencroft's Yorkshire Dales home, in the dale of 'Clapdale'. The farmers are paid more for their wool than at auction and receive a share of the profits of every product sold. The wool is then processed, from farm to yarn, within just 50 miles of the sheep it comes from. Certified as Traceable British Wool.
